Shahnawaz Khan Shahnawaz Khan is the Partner in Grant Thornton and leads the IFRS 9 & 17 advisory, financial services, and energy practice. He is a chartered accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) and holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Delhi University, India. He has nearly 20 years of professional experience specializing in financial services, energy, and family business. He has worked a number of years in London financial services market and north sea energy market. He has lead audit and advisory teams on funds, banks, insurers and energy clients listed in the UK, US, and Bermuda. In middle east, he has been leading diversified portfolios having listed entities across the regions and also leads IFRS conversations. He is also an insurance technical partner for GT Kenya office. Some of his clients are LIC International, Capital Market Authority Oman, Ken India, HSBC, Citi Bank, Aviva, Prudential, Friends Life, Royal & Sun Alliance, Shell, Ferguson plc, and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum. In past, he worked with big four audit firms in India, UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Malta, Oman, Kenya, and the UK and on secondment to other parts of the world.
Simon Perry Simon joined Grant Thornton in September 2016 and has over 25 years of experience consulting to insurance companies. He leads Grant Thornton’s Life Insurance Actuarial and Risk Team. Simon also leads Grant Thornton’s IFRS 17 proposition development activity. He is an SME on actuarial methodology, implications for life insurance products and technical interpretation of the IFRS 17 standard. He has led a number of large IFRS 17 engagements for life and non-life companies covering impact assessment, operational gap analysis, methodology development, system selection and implementation planning. He has provided training to Boards in this area. More generally, Simon has extensive experience in supporting life insurance clients around all aspects of financial reporting, capital management and business transfers.
